Dental Assistant – Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Associate of Science Degree Program expands upon the Diploma Program with an additional seven courses of general education that provide the foundation for a graduate to find expanded long-term career opportunities. The Associate of Science Degree Program emphasizes communication skills that will give the graduates a competitive edge. The knowledge gained in this program, combined with work experience, may provide future entry-level opportunities in managing an office.

Upon successful completion of either the Associate of Science or the Diploma Program, graduates may secure such specific positions as Chair-side Assistant and Dental Receptionist. Each course stands alone as a unit of study and is not dependent upon prerequisite training. A student may enter the program at the beginning of any course and continue through the sequence until completion of all courses. The externship is undertaken following the successful completion of all classroom training. This externship is unpaid.

Massage Therapy – Associates of Applied Science Degree

The Massage Therapist plays an important role in the growing Health Care fields of preventative health care, fitness, and stress management. Massage Therapy students learn Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology of the body as it relates to soft tissue injury and treatment. Students engage in supervised hands-on training in traditional Swedish massage and other related modalities such as, hydrotherapy, sports massage, deep tissue, chair massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage and spa treatments.

The Massage Therapy student participates in a Supervised Clinic designed to provide experience in a clinic setting, both in practical application of a variety of techniques and practice management. An important part of this Massage Therapy program is the comprehensive study of skills needed to start and operate an independent Massage Therapy business. Graduates of the Associate of Applied Science Degree Program in Massage Therapy learn professional business practices, resume writing, marketing techniques, job interviewing and therapeutic communication skills. They are prepared to open and manage their own Massage Therapy Practice with the skills gained in the advanced courses.

The Diploma and Associate of Applied Science Degree programs equip the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry level Massage Therapist. Graduates of these programs are prepared to seek positions in a wide range of health-related workplaces, such as: sports medicine clinics, pain management clinics, hospice facilities, Orthopedic offices, Physical Therapy offices, nursing homes, naturopathic clinics, Chiropractic offices and Psychiatric offices. In addition, Massage Therapists may be employed in athletic clubs, resorts, spas, yoga retreat centers, golf courses, beauty salons, dance studios, and cruise ships.

Medical Assistant – Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled health professional who plays an important role as a member of the health care team in a variety of medical settings. The Medical Assistant program introduces students to anatomy and physiology of the body systems, medical terminology, and required clinical and administrative skills needed for an entry-level Medical Assistant position. Students will engage in hands on training in clinical and administrative procedures such as injections, veni-puncture, telephone techniques, filing and preparation of medical records. After successful completion of all classroom training, the student will then complete an externship in a healthcare setting.

Graduates from the diploma program are prepared to seek entry-level positions such as: Clinical Medical Assistant, Administrative Medical Assistant, Medical receptionist, Medical Bookkeeper, and Laboratory Assistant. The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program provides the foundation for a graduate to seek more expanded career opportunities in the field of medical assisting and prepares them for future career advancement.

Medical Billing and Coding – Associate of Applied Science Degree

The Medical Billing & Coding program provides students with a solid professional foundation in the field and enables them to become a vital member of the health care team and contribute to the overall financial business activities of the health care facility. Medical Billing and Coding students in this program acquire a working knowledge of coding systems, coding principles and rules, government regulations, and third-party payer requirements to ensure that diagnoses, services, and procedures documented in patient medical records are coded accurately for reimbursement and statistical and research purposes.

Graduates of the diploma program are prepared to seek specific positions such as: Coding Specialist, Health Insurance Specialist, or Medical Reimbursement Specialist. The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program provides graduates with necessary critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. Graduates of the Associates of Applied Science Degree Program can not only seek entry-level employment opportunities as mentioned above, but also are prepared for future career advancement opportunities in supervisory roles in a variety of health care environments.

Such employment environments include but are not limited to clinics, consulting firms, government agencies, hospitals, insurance companies, nursing facilities, home health agencies, and physician offices.

Pharmacy Technician – Associate of Applied Science Degree

The entry-level Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and a supervising technician. The pharmacy technician will assist in the day-to-day activities of the pharmacy by filling prescriptions, assisting customers, ordering medications, and supporting the pharmacist. They will also be involved with reviewing patient drug allergies, dosing of medications, potential interactions and incompatibilities. A trained Pharmacy Technician can prepare IV, compounded, and/or unit-dose medications. An efficient technician will ensure the location, quality and quantity of all medications stored in the pharmacy. A Pharmacy Technician can participate in drug utilization, evaluation and quality assurance programs. They will consistently review the pharmacy’s inventory of drugs expired, recalled, inadequately labeled, or other non-usable drugs.

The Pharmacy Technician course is designed to provide a sound educational environment for instruction and training to equip its graduates to seek entry-level positions in different pharmacy settings. Pharmacy settings in which an entry level student may work include retail, hospital, mail order, long-term care, and compounding pharmacies.

The course work consists of lecture/demonstration and hands on laboratory procedures.

Surgical Technologist – Associate of Applies Science Degree

The Surgical Technologist program equips the graduate with skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level Surgical Technologist. This program provides the background that enables a student to assume a responsible entry level position as a member of the Health Care team in a hospital or surgical center. Surgical skills as well as laboratory procedures are taught to meet the requirements of the operating room. Graduates of the Diploma Program are prepared to seek a position as a Surgical Technologist. The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program provides graduates with necessary critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills. These skills, combined with the knowledge gained in this program and work experience, provide future opportunities in related supervisory roles and/or advanced surgical specialties in addition to the specific position as a Surgical Technologist.

Graduates of these programs are eligible to sit for the NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) Certification Examination, Tech in Surgery Certified, TS-C and the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Certification Examination, Certified Surgical Technologist, CST. Each course stands alone as a unit of study and is not dependent upon prerequisite training. A student may enter the program at the beginning of any course and continue through the sequence until completion of all courses. The unpaid externship is undertaken following the successful completion of all classroom training. Students work in a hospital, surgicenter or private physician’s office. During the externship, the student is allowed to assist surgeons during surgery in the operating room. The student is able to perform the skills taught during the classroom portion of training.

Dental Assistant – Diploma

The Dental Assistant plays a vital role in the organized delivery of dental services. These programs train students in both theory and practical application in the fundamentals of dental radiography. Students are introduced to dental science and become Cardiopulmonary (CPR) certified. In addition, students engage in hands-on training with regard to dental equipment, instruments, and tray set-ups. Students are also taught proper dental health and laboratory procedures. Moreover, students are taught the basic dental office administrative procedures.

The Diploma program provides the background, which enables a student to assume a responsible entry-level position as a Dental Assistant. Required chair-side skills as well as administrative procedures are taught for use in large or small dental practices.

Massage Therapy – Diploma

The student is trained in the use of proper body mechanics for their own well-being and injury prevention. In addition, students are taught sanitation procedures, First Aid, and become Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified. The Massage Therapy student participates in a Supervised Clinic designed to provide experience in a clinic setting, both in practical application of a variety of techniques and practice management. An important part of this Massage Therapy program is the comprehensive study of skills needed to start and operate an independent Massage Therapy business.

The Massage Therapy Diploma program equips the graduate with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level Massage Therapist. Graduates of the Massage Therapy program are prepared to secure positions in a wide range of health related workplaces, such as: sports medicine clinics, pain management clinics, hospice facilities, orthopedic offices, Physical Therapy offices, nursing homes, naturopathic clinics, Chiropractic offices and Psychiatric offices. In addition, Massage Therapists may be employed in athletic clubs, resorts, spas, yoga retreat centers, golf courses, beauty salons, dance studios, and cruise ships.

The Massage Therapy program prepares the graduate for the National Certification Exam for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB). Certification and Licensing requirements vary by state therefore if the student is interested in relocating to another state, he is responsible for verification that his education meets that states requirement.

Medical Assistant – Diploma

The Medical Assistant plays an important role as a member of the Health Care team in a physician’s office or clinic. Theory and practical application in the fundamentals of medical diagnostic and laboratory techniques are taught. Medical Assistant students are introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the body systems and become Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified. In addition, students engage in hands-on training with regard to vein-puncture, injections, urinalysis, electrocardiography, measurement of vital signs, and preparation for physical and specialty exams. Students are taught basic medical office administrative procedures. The graduate is equipped with skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level Medical Assistant.

This program provides the background which enables a student to assume a responsible entry level position as a Medical Assistant. Required laboratory skills and administrative procedures are taught for use in a physician’s office or clinic. Graduates of the program receive a Diploma in preparation for such entry-level positions as: Clinical Medical Assistant, Administrative Medical Assistant, Medical Receptionist, Medical Bookkeeper and Laboratory Assistant.

Medical Billing and Coding – Diploma

The Medical Biller & Coder is trained to work with health-related information and the systems used to collect, process, store, retrieve, and communicate information for the support of operations, management, and decision making with a medical facility or related industry. As computerization of information advances, the Medical Biller & Coder is vital to medical coding, computerized billing and patient care data analysis.

The Medical Billing & Coding program is designed to provide a sound educational environment for instruction and training to equip its graduates for entry-level positions as Medical Billers & Coders. Each course stands alone as a unit of study and is not dependent upon prerequisite training. A student may enter the program at the beginning of any course and continue through the sequence until completion of all courses. The course work consists of lecture/demonstration and hands on computer laboratory procedures.

The externship is undertaken following the successful completion of all classroom training. Students work in a medical office or hospital. During the externship the student is allowed to perform the skills taught during the classroom portion of training.

Students are introduced to the Operating Room environment engage in hands-on training with regard to sterilization, surgical equipment and supplies, instruments and case set-ups. Students are also taught proper surgical aseptic procedures. Moreover, students practice specific surgical procedures throughout the program of study. This program equips the graduate with skills and knowledge necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level Surgical Technologist. This program provides the background that enables a student to assume a responsible entry-level position as a member of the Health Care team in a hospital or surgical center. Surgical skills as well as laboratory procedures are taught to meet the requirements of the operating room. Graduates of the program receive a Diploma in preparation for a position as a Surgical Technologist.
