Top Ten Reasons You Need a Career Change

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Everyone needs to work.  You work to make money.  You use your money to pay your bills and living expenses.  The average person who works 40 hours a week, from age 17 – 60, will work over 80,000 hours during their lifetime.  Wouldn’t you want to spend that much time of your life doing something you enjoy?  If you feel like you are unhappy with your current job, check out these top ten reasons and see how many apply to you.  Maybe it is time for a change…

  1.  Every morning you wake up thinking how many hours left in the week you have to endure.
  2. As you begin to do your work for the day, you find your mind wandering off thinking of what else you could be doing with your time.
  3. You work only for the money, even if it is good.
  4. You are in a career that impresses your parents or other loved ones but doesn’t make you happy.
  5. You live for the weekend.
  6. Your days at the office are long and boring and provide you with no excitement or mental stimulation.
  7.  You have no passion or interest in what you do.
  8. Work stresses you out and you bring that stress to your home life.
  9. You feel like you have no control of your future or potential for growth and promotion.
  10. You feel like just another number among all of the other employers and that your hard work is not valued or appreciated.

If you apply to at least three of these reasons, you should search your options.  The start to a great new career is education.  Go to school for something you love.  Check out Americolleges.com to search for a career school near you.

Tweet your Personal Brand

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Ever think that Twitter, the newest social networking site, could help promote your personal brand or market your career?  According to an article on Boston.com, you can, with the help of do’s and don’ts to use while networking with people, industry news and events.

  1.  Use the advanced search tool to track what people are tweeting about in your industry.  For example, if you just graduated from a career school you found on Americolleges.com with a degree in nursing, you could search for hospitals, doctors or nursing homes.
  2. Tweet with your peers directly about your latest career developments and accomplishments.
  3. Create a link on your Twitter page to your LinkedIN page.
  4. Use the hash tag for industry events or networking opportunities you are participating in.
  5. Favorite positive Tweets.
  6. Avoid controversial or political arguments.
  7. Never talk negatively about colleagues, employers or competitors.
  8. Don’t tweet something negative that you wouldn’t want a future employer, boss or HR person to see.

Who would have thought that Twitter could help you brand yourself and help you find the job of your dreams?  I would recommend building your Twitter page now while you are beginning your search for a school, enrolling in school and starting your education.

Why a Career Education?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

According to the Career College Association, a career education is very popular these days.  Reason is that more people are opting to look for post-secondary education to make a better future for themselves.  Another reason is that more federal money is available through loans and grants for workforce training.  Plus, more jobs are now requiring more training and skills as well as certifications, which career colleges and universities offer.  Even the President has pointed career and technical education as part as the nation’s economy solution.  President Obama called for “every American to commit to at least one year or more of higher education or career training” in his formal address to Congress in February 2009.

If a career education is what you are looking for, Americolleges, the online nationwide college directory, can help you find the ideal technical school to fit your needs, whether geographical or career-specific.  We list countless career schools including Westwood College in Denver, CO and Florida Technical College in Jacksonville as well as numerous career fields from automobile to culinary arts and business.  Take a look at your options to improve your future now at Americolleges.com.
