Tweet your Personal Brand

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Ever think that Twitter, the newest social networking site, could help promote your personal brand or market your career?  According to an article on Boston.com, you can, with the help of do’s and don’ts to use while networking with people, industry news and events.

  1.  Use the advanced search tool to track what people are tweeting about in your industry.  For example, if you just graduated from a career school you found on Americolleges.com with a degree in nursing, you could search for hospitals, doctors or nursing homes.
  2. Tweet with your peers directly about your latest career developments and accomplishments.
  3. Create a link on your Twitter page to your LinkedIN page.
  4. Use the hash tag for industry events or networking opportunities you are participating in.
  5. Favorite positive Tweets.
  6. Avoid controversial or political arguments.
  7. Never talk negatively about colleagues, employers or competitors.
  8. Don’t tweet something negative that you wouldn’t want a future employer, boss or HR person to see.

Who would have thought that Twitter could help you brand yourself and help you find the job of your dreams?  I would recommend building your Twitter page now while you are beginning your search for a school, enrolling in school and starting your education.
