About Us
Santa Barbara Business College is one of the oldest colleges in California and the country.
The College was founded in 1888 as a California business college and normal institute. Normal institutes trained teachers at the turn of the 20th century. The primary curriculum focus throughout SBBC's long history has been business.
In recent years, curriculum offerings have expanded to include programs in Allied Health, Information Technology, Paralegal and Criminal Justice in addition to the traditional Business offerings. Santa Barbara Business College also offers Associate degrees to enrich the learning experience and increase lifelong earning potential. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, individuals who have earned an Associate degree will earn on average 30 percent more than those individuals with only a high school diploma or GED.
Establishing very close ties with the business community and changing quickly to meet employer demands have always been hallmarks of this California college's rich history and success. In 1982, SBBCollege opened the Bakersfield campus in the heart of the southern San Joaquin Valley. Like its neighboring SBBCollege campuses, it quickly became a local college favorite and has remained that way over the years. Recently, SBBCollege broke ground on a beautiful new Bakersfield college campus at 5300 California Avenue. The new technology-rich campus offers computer and medical labs, and a learning resource center. The new facility, the biggest of all SBBCollege locations, is destined to be one of Kern County’s best and brightest college campuses.

In January 2008, SBBCollege opened a Palm Desert college campus to provide business and technical training to students throughout the beautiful Coachella Valley. The new campus offers computer and medical labs and a learning resource center. Additional construction, now in the planning phase, includes spa-like wellness studios for massage therapy and fitness training.
